Hi, I’m Jay Zenner and I’m a REALTOR in Durham, North Carolina. This is my blog about the luxury real estate market in Durham, a market that has been less than vibrant recently. My conclusion after looking at sales in the luxury market for several years is that Durham is the victim of its own self-doubts and image of itself. This is in spite of an exceptionally healthy economy built on Research Triangle Park; Duke, a major research university and medical center; and North Carolina Central University, another aspiring major research university.
It’s fashionable to make fun of our foibles, but it is destructive to our ability to market our finest homes and attract the talent and energy that continues to create jobs and wealth. My purpose with the blog is to stimulate some pride in the community and discussion about how to continue to create value in our unique and special neighborhoods. I hope you find it stimulating, thought provoking and helpful in creating a widespread change in our community attitude about ourselves.
Not all posts will be about real estate. Downtown development and public education have been interests of mine for many years. So have sports and their impact on the
community. Recently I’ve seen the impact and the need for Habitat for Humanity in Durham. Occasionally, I hope there is something fun to say about these things.
What makes blogs different from other websites is that they can facilitate an ongoing conversation. I welcome comments on the ideas and marketing techniques that I offer with my posts. Here at the beginning, I will be the only contributor. One of my goals is to promote my own real estate practice but I hope other REALTORs will join the conversation and adopt some of the techniques that I believe will make the Durham Luxury market better for everyone. However, as the creator of the site I will reserve the right to “moderate” the comments. This means that before any comments are added to a post I will have to approve them. I will tolerate any thoughtful contribution to the dialog but reserve the right to reject the profane and the unprofessional and hope I don’t have to play censor too often. This also avoids comment “spam” that is often generated automatically. I’m also going to require commentors to register so that I can contact them when I think a point needs clarification before being posted.
It’s been fun putting the site together and I hope readers will find it useful and entertaining.
